Product Description

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a endogenous fatty acid amide. It is naturally synthesized in the body from palmitic acid, which is a common saturated fatty acid, and ethanolamine, a small molecule derived from the amino acids. Many plants and animals are found to produce PEA. Some specific sources of PEA include soy lecithin, soybeans, egg yolk, peanuts, walnuts, and others. Research indicate a therapeutic potential for palmitoylethanolamide in several conditions like chronic pain syndromes, and neuroinflammation along with certain neurological disorders. Researches have shown that PEA supports in cellular functions and signalling pathways. It proves to be indicated for use mostly in the form of a dietary supplement—as capsules and powders—being perceived to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Applications

  • Anti-Inflammatory: According to studies perhaps the most well-known property of PEA is that related to anti-inflammatory activity. Studies suggest that PEA may modulate the immune response via decreased activation of mast cells and other immune cells, which, in turn, can decreases the release of inflammatory mediators. It may be quite effective against chronic inflammatory conditions like arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and dermatological disorders like eczema and psoriasis.
  • Analgesic Effects: PEA has been shown to exert analgesic activities in several studies. The compound seems to act on pain pathways and receptors concerned with the perception of pain and, hence, might provide relief from neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis pain.
  •  Neuroprotective Benefits: Research studies conducted on the preclinical and clinical levels show that PEA can have neuroprotective activity. It shows PEA can work towards protection of nerve cells against damage and inflammation. Its benefits could be extended to neurodegenerative disorders like multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.
  • Immune Modulation: Some studies suggest PEA modulates the immune response without suppressing its general function. It may contribute to immune balance, reducing excessive immune activation seen in autoimmune disorders. It might alleviate symptoms and increase quality of life in disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
  • Skin Health: Topical PEA formulations have been studied for a number of benefits associated with dermatological conditions. Studies suggest PEA can counteract inflammatory states, thus soothing and repairing irritated skin; hence, it might be valuable for atopic dermatitis, eczema, and acne.
  • Ocular Health: PEA studies suggest that it may help in protecting retinal cells to save vision in conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Its neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory actions may make it a potential therapeutic option within ophthalmology.
  • Cardiometabolic Health: A number of recent research studies have suggested the potential salutary effects of PEA on cardiometabolic health. It has been in investigation for its potential in improving lipid metabolism, reducing oxidative stress, and acting against cardiovascular diseases.
